Wilson offers such a wide array of choices, the biggest challenge for visitors, is deciding what to do first. Our vibrant community, with its award-winning revitalized downtown, offers festivals including Theater of the American South in the Spring and the first weekend in November the Whirligig Festival; Downtown Alive concerts May - September; Fridays on the Lawn, Historic Walking Tours, Porch Tours, Museums, Attractions, Great Golf, Art Galleries, Studios, Fabulous Restaurants, Boating, Hiking, Fishing and Antiques galore! Wilson is named for General Louis Dickens Wilson (1789-1841) who was a state senator. Southern Hospitality and home town charm are a tradition here.
Incorporated in 1849 as a farm market, Wilson has taken great care to preserve its past. Titled one of North Carolina's most beautiful cities consisting of an abundance of treasures and simple pleasures, Wilson is full of fun, nostalgia, and historic sites, for you to enjoy. Start your visit at the newly restored c 1925 Bungalow, the Wilson Visitors Center in downtown Wilson. Open for free tours to the public Monday - Friday 9 - 5 pm. Closed Holidays!
